ENCLOS REACHES CONSTRUCTION HALFWAY POINT AT UCSF MEDICAL CENTER AT MISSION BAY

Enclos finalizing design/build services for 395,000 sqft of facade

EAGAN, MN – July 13, 2012 – Enclos’ field operations team has reached the halfway point for facade installation at UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay. Field personnel are currently installing the remaining unitized curtainwall, punched windows within precast concrete panels, glass sunshades, louvers, metal panel, and storefront systems as part of Phase II.

Jobsite planning began a year and a half before the project’s groundbreaking in 2010. Enclos worked daily with other key team members at the project’s Integrated Center for Design and Construction to develop lean construction methods to result in fewer change orders, claims and delays throughout the construction process. Team members included personnel from UCSF, Stantec Architecture, DPR Construction, engineers, and additional subcontractors.

Throughout the Phase I Preconstruction and Engineering phase, Enclos’ in-house engineers delivered shop drawings and structural calculations required for OSHPD submissions, while in-house BIM technicians contributed 3-D models of the building complex to improve project quality, lower costs and maximize schedule efficiency. Custom wall system designs included seismic and acoustic treatments, sun shading, large special glass, glass fins, operable windows, and shadowboxes. Enclos validated these custom wall systems during a series of mock-up and testing procedures prior to construction.

The three building hospital complex at Mission Bay stretches across 14.5-acres, just south of the existing UCSF biomedical campus. The facility will expand in terms of both volume and patient facilities while complying with increased earthquake safety standards mandated by the State of California. The $1.5 billion new medical center is scheduled to open February 1st, 2015, and is on target to get LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
