The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) announced VIA 57 West the 2016 Best Tall Building winner of the Americas region yesterday. The project was one of 132 submissions representing 27 countries.
In CTBUH’s release, the organization applauds architect Bjarke Ingels Group for creating a new high-rise typology with its “courtscraper” design. “The building offers a unique vision for the future of the tall building; one that manages to synthesize high-quality and visually appealing architecture with the needs of the client, all without sacrificing environmental performance or residential quality.”
Enclos provided comprehensive design/assist-design/build services for the north elevation’s fishbone-patterned curtainwall system, south facing unitized stainless steel sloped wall system, and east/west custom curtainwall systems.
Via 57 West will now compete for the overall “2016 Best Tall Building Worldwide” award. The winner will be announced at CTBUH's Awards Symposium in Chicago on Thursday, November 3.
In addition to Via 57 West, 432 Park Avenue was named a “Best Tall Building Americas Finalist”. The 1396-foot tall structure features a 1:15 slenderness ratio, and is the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere. Enclos provided comprehensive design/build services for the project’s 247,568 square feet of facade.
