Many of you already know Mic Patterson, Director of Strategic Development for Enclos, or have experienced the AIA/CES program "Exposed Structural Systems and Long Span Glass Facades" that he has presented to numerous architectural offices. What you might not know is that the content of this program derives from a book authored by Patterson that is being published by John Wiley and Sons. "Structural Glass Facades and Enclosures" is scheduled for release at the end of March, and is currently available for pre-order.
The book is roughly half descriptive text covering structural glass facade technology, and half case studies of structural glass facade applications. The text explores the structural systems, glazing systems and glass that characterize this technology, addressing considerations ranging from design through fabrication and erection. Project delivery strategies appropriate for projects with innovative content are discussed. Eleven exemplary case studies explore diverse applications of structural glass facades in depth. These applications include mullion and truss systems, cable trusses, cable nets, and an all-glass enclosure.
Not simply a design or engineering book, "Structural Glass Facades and Enclosures" is intended as an implementation resource for any of the stakeholders involved in a building project where structural glass facade technology may be appropriate for consideration; the architect, engineer, owner/developer, general contractor, facade contractor, facade consultant, fabricator, material supplier, or erector will find information relevant to their work. Students of architecture, engineering and construction management will also find the book of interest. In fact, Patterson used the book material as the basis for an advanced facade course called Skin and Bones that he taught at the University of Southern California School of Architecture.
In addition to its custom curtainwall work, Enclos specializes in structural glass facades, having completed many applications of the technology. If you are considering a structural glass facade application on one of your building projects, remember that Mic “wrote the book” on the subject, and give us a call!
You can pre-order "Structural Glass Facades and Enclosures" here. If you would like to inquire about scheduling an AIA/CES presentation of "Exposed Structural Systems and Long Span Glass Facades," please send the request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
